Nepal is developing country since we are still struggling with technologies and innovation in the first place. Whereas, creativity and innovations have minimum security in the absence of systematic legislation. Intellectual Property Law is one of the important category of law in commercial sector but least attention has been paid in our country. Copyright and trademark are recognized ones yet they are constantly infringed by multiple means. Traditional Knowledge, patent, geographical indication, trade secret are least practiced categories of law and most people are unaware of some categories of law. Therefore, intellectual property needs protection due to following reasons:

  1. It protects creativity and knowledge by providing credibility to innovator.
  2. It encourage humans for innovation.
  3. It uplifts the economic and social condition of any society.
  4. Provides unique protection and identity of the business.
  5. The protection of ideas boosts up confidence and provides security to the innovator.
  6. It protects consumers and families.

The creation of the human mind needs protection which is possible after recognition by the existing legislation. Protection of one's assets or protection of property rights falls under the category of fundamental rights of the country. Intellectual Property rights lie within the ambit of property rights which is intangible by nature. In Nepal, the concept of intellectual property is in the developing phase. Most of the types of intellectual property rights are novel in the country. Trademark and copyright to some extent have managed to gain maximum protection but patent, traditional knowledge, trade secret, plant variety rights need further attention.

The Intellectual Property Rights Committee aims to impart knowledge and inform the general public about intellectual property rights. Our vision is informing people about the existence of intellectual property rights and assist them with securing their rights. We expect to increase public interest and innovative progress. Our mission is to inform the public about their intangible property rights by running online courses, test sessions, training sessions, seminar programs, case study competitions, moot court, and various other competitions to inform law students, young lawyers, entrepreneurs, writers about their creation’s protection. Further, it acts as a place to train law students and young lawyers who are interested to pursue their carrier in the field of intellectual property law. The Committee not only targets to enhance knowledge of people from the legal field but also informs general public to save their intellect.
